Overcome the cold with fruit!

The arctic chill has descended on Seattle and it seems like everyone is looking for a way to stay warm and beat this chilly front.

If you’re spending any amount of time in the cold then you know it affects more than just your internal temperature. Our energy levels, overall health, and even our skin is benefited or damaged by what we put in our bodies and when it’s cold, it’s helpful to know that even some of our more common foods can help us get through to the spring.

While it may seem easy to just throw on your favorite Patagonia jacket to try taking the edge off, you can actually marginalize some of the cold based on what you eat.

It makes sense, right? The food we eat gets turned into energy. One of those byproducts is naturally heat.

In this article from Cosmopolitan, they list off eight foods that can help you stay warm in the cold and benefit your health in the meantime.

Unsurprisingly, bananas popped up on the list. Sometimes we don’t give our fine, yellow friends enough play but combining fruits like bananas and blueberries with ice or oats will do wonders to help bring up the serotonin in your bloodstream.

Certainly you know that oranges can help fight off illness since they’re so rich in Vitamin-C, but oranges do much more than just keep the sniffles away.

According to Medical News Today, oranges can lower blood pressure, reduce free radicals in your bloodstream and benefit your cardiac health.

Both oranges and bananas are high in potassium which is intrinsic to a healthy heart and body.
